A banner graphic showing black-and-white cutouts of two SRs holding megaphones arranged around text that reads, ‘VOTE YES ON STATEWIDE RESOLUTION TO DEMAND RECOGNITION.September 22, 2021

Today, voting begins in the Student Researchers United resolution to demand UC stop stalling and recognize SRU-UAW in its entirety. Vote ‘yes’ on the resolution to affirm that SRs are united behind our demand for recognition of all SRs.

Despite supermajority democratic support from SRs, UC is choosing to waste time and money on a legal appeal with no basis in reality (see SRU’s response to their arguments here). Every day UC refuses to recognize SRU-UAW is another day SRs work without the protections of a union contract.

Last Friday, PERB sent SRU-UAW a new update, in which they requested additional information and asked to schedule a conference with UC. This request for additional information is a good sign, as it means they are taking our arguments seriously. If a meeting occurs, UC will likely use it to reiterate their claim that fellows and trainees are not workers and don’t share a “community of interest” with GSRs.

This legal process can drag on for months, but UC can choose to drop their baseless objections any day. The strongest response to their argument is to show that SRs remain united and will not back down until UC recognizes SRU-UAW, including fellows and trainees. Vote yes on the resolution to demand UC drop the objections and start bargaining today!
